The strong sunlight rained down on the ShadowPack camp, bouncing off the remains of the water, making them sparkle. The trecherous winter was fading with each breath, and spring was replacing it with the warm sunlight, or maybe too warm. Yet, with the new season came the most dangerous task to all canines, mating season and territory claiming. The Renegades have been getting pretty jumpy at the ShadowPack nowadays, and the slight fear was that their numbers would increase and the members would strengthen up. However, there should be no worries, since they were getting stronger and more vile each day. The East Side of the forest will always be ruled by Whitestar and ShadowPack. Not to mention the deputy, Lou, who would fight until the end to protect her territory.
Moonfeather lounged on the small patch of grass in the clearing, the sun hitting her molten gray coat. Her mouth was open in a slight pant as she was beginning to warm up fast. Moonfeather's yellowing fangs were clearly visible and her splotched tongue lolled out to the side. Her long legs were underneath her, which were starting to cramp up. "I hope the Renegades and the humans keep their distance. The last thing I would want is a death," she mused aloud, her emerald gaze sweeping the clearing.
A sudden biting sensation was starting behind her pointed ear, and it was caused by the menice of all animals alike - fleas. With a jerk of her back leg, Moonfeather scratched the heck out of her ear, feeling her claws dig deeper and deeper until the biting had stopped. "Damn fleas! If those twolegs don't kill us first, the fleas will!" she cursed, scratching again. Moonfeather stood on her paws, the grass popping underneath, and shook her pelt to rid herself of the fleas and whatnot. Looking around, she realized she was alone. "Where is everyone?" she wondered, sitting down on the dry, brown grass.

Blacksnow dropped a hare into the fresh-kill pile at looked over at Moonfeather. She laughed quietly as she tried to get rid of the tick. "I would be careful, if you scratch any harder that ear might fall off." She teased playfully. Angelflight walked in behind Blacksnow, carrying a small pigeon. "Who scratched their ear off?" She asked, smiling slightly. She tossed her bird into the pile, feeling slightly ashamed at how small it was.

Orchidfrost, who had been lounging quietly, opened one, light green eye to watch Moonfeather, Angelflight, and Blacksnow. She yawned, and rose to her paws, stretching the sleep out of her tired body. Echohowl had suggested that she should rest while her injuries from the bear attack heal, but it was just too hot to do that. The only place where it was a tad cooler was in the pine forest. Sighing, Orchidfrost walked over to the group converging around the fresh-kill pile.
"Good morning? Or is it sunhigh? I lost track," she said, sitting down between Moonfeather and Blacksnow. Orchidfrost was bored to no end. She hoped to end up on a border patrol, or a hunting patrol, but it was probably unlikely. Echohowl had also told her that she shouldn't do anything to reopen the wounds. Strenuous activities: out.

A pretty gray and tan she-wolf popped in the sunlight from the shadows. She had a goofy looking grin on her face, with her bright pink tongue hanging out. The she-wolf paused, looking at the wolves in the clearing. Padding over to the group, she sat down more to the shadows of the pines, listening to the warriors talk and gossip. Then, the she-wolf sighed. If only she had another apprentice to be her friend...

Orchidfrost looked over. "Oh, hello there!" she exclaimed, greeting the newcomer. She moved over some in case she wanted to join in. "Come to join our little chat?" the she-wolf asked, smiling. Orchidfrost looked at the other warriors; they probably wouldn't mind.

Moonfeather smiled and giggled as Blacksnow and Angelflight came up. If she did scratch hard enough, she would be seeing Echohowl with a badly torn-up ear. "Aye, ain't that the truth. Better watch out, they might get ya' too!" Moonfeather teased, her ears relaxed on her head. Casually, Moonfeather looked over at the fresh-kill pile and frowned. It wasn't that much, so another day without eating for her. Sigh. Or, perhaps her, Squirreltooth, Bramblethorn and Orchidfrost could go on a little hunting trip. Well, Orchidfrost would have to sit out. Medicine wolf's word was law.
"Good afternoon Orchidfrost!" she greeted warmly, her smile welcoming. Since the death of Diogenes, her and Orchidfrost had become a little closer as friends. Not like her and Whitestar, but pretty close to it. "These days you can never tell the time of day. Sometimes I wonder if StarPack is trying to kill us," she mumbled darkly. Everyone had to admit that the faith in StarPack was starting to dwindle. Moonfeather smiled quickly at the apprentice.

Orchidfrost grinned at Moonfeather's greeting, and was about to say something, but was cut off by Whitestar as she approached. "I should hope not. There isn't any other deity that we as warriors can thoroughly rely on," the white leader said. She stood behind Orchidfrost, but there was something odd about the Shadowpack leader. Whitestar looked like she was tired out; her tongue lolled on the side of her mouth as she panted. This weather.. she thought. Orchidfrost moved aside, dipping her head respectfully.
"Whitestar..I didn't see you there," the young she-wolf said. Whitestar smiled at Orchidfrost. "I apologize for startling you. I happened to see from the other side of camp the small group that was forming here and was simply curious." She eyed the fresh-kill pile and what she saw worried her. Was it so hot that even the frogs would burrow into the mud?

Moonfeather gasped in her head as the leader approached. She prayed and prayed that she didn't say anything out of line, because she didn't want to terminate their respect and friendship between them. Not wanting to increase the tension, Moonfeather simply bowed her head to Whitestar, showing her the up-most respect. "I didn't see you there, Whitestar. Nice of you to join us," she welcomed, smiling. The deputy caught something troubling her friend, seen in her eyes. Moonfeather mimicked the expression, seeing if she would noticed. I wonder what has Whitestar's tail between her legs?

Icepaw bowed her head to Whitestar and nodded to her mentor. "What shall I do?" She asked Moonfeather. Icepaw loved her new mentor, she was proud, strong, and deputy. Also, she was one of the nicest wolves in ShadowPack. Icepaw continued to think of thing to do while another wolf padded next to Moonfeather. It was, Bramblethorn, Moonfeather's mate.
Bramblethorn made a sort of purr to his beautiful mate, then nodded to her apprentice and Whitestar. " Hey, can I go on a patrol with Icepaw? I want to show her something." He asked his mate and deputy, a twinkle in his eyes. Bramblethorn was always a mischievous one, and he wanted to show Icepaw Moonfeather's past.

Moonfeather jumped in surprise as she heard a gentle wolf growl behind her. She nuzzled Bramblethorn back and growled back. "Not at all, as long as she doesn't get hurt. Because tomorrow we have a competition, don't we?" she replied, looking at Icepaw. She winked and laughed softly. Icepaw was her second apprentice, and by far her favorite. She was always so eager to learn, and just an all around gentle wolf. Reminded her much of herself when she was that age, and of Thornshadow, her favorite mentor. The thought of him made her cringe and almost cry. She missed him soo dearly after that bad incident. At least the culpret was dead and gone.
Out of the pine trees bounded a lively young wolf, his creamy brown fur ruffling. He skidded to a stop beside Blacksnow, almost bowling her over. Of course, this young lad was very clumsy, unlike his mother. "Can I come too Pop? Can I, mother-I mean Moonfeather?" Squirreltooth asked, his long brown tail twitching like a squirrel's. Moonfeather looked at her son, then and Bramblethorn. "It's alright with me if it's okay with Icepaw and your father," she replied, smiling. The deputy shot an embarrassed expression to the females around her. Ah, the joys of being a mother.

Whitestar smiled knowingly, her troubles forgotten in the moment. "Its alright," she chuckled, reading Moonfeather's expression. "I know how it is." Littleflame was a warrior now as well, but he was still her son. She was proud of him as his mother and leader. With a slight nod, Whitestar backed away, grinning. "Well, I'll not interfere with family affairs. Moonfeather, Blacksnow, Icepaw, Bramblethorn, Squirreltooth," she said, dipping her head in farewell. The white she-wolf turned to Orchidfrost.
"Orchidfrost, would you come with me, please?" Whitestar asked. The maroon warrior gulped nervously. "Um, of course," she answered, and accompanied her leader out of camp. There were things that needed to be discussed. Things not meant for other ears to hear. Whitestar hoped Moonfeather would pardon her strange behavior today; she'd talk to her about it later.

Bramblethorn twitched his fluffy tail in humor, then nodded to his son. He looked at his mate with loving amber eyes, then nuzzled softly on the cheek. "Are you going or are you just going to do that?" A voice came behind Bramblethorn and it was Icepaw, her golden eyes flickering impatiently. Bramblethorn made a playful growl and nodded to Moonfeather. The male looked at the two young wolves and nodded to them, beckoning for the two of them to walk.
Icepaw looked at Squirreltooth, excitement in her paws. What was it that we were going to see? She wondered, casting a gaze at Bramblethorn, then Squirreltooth. Icepaw's mind flickered with pride, then jealousy. Pride because ShadowPack had such strong males to protect the pack, and jealousy because they were both warrior, although Squirreltooth still acted like a apprentice.

Moonfeather smiled at Icepaw's annoyance and licked her mate back. "I don't know what your doing, but be careful," she warned, concern in her eyes. She didn't know what her lovely mate was doing, but she had a hunch it was about her. Watching her family and Icepaw pad away, she turned back to see Orchidfrost and Whitestar leaving. She had to admit, something was getting a little fishy around here, but the deputy decided to keep her jaw closed.
Squirreltooth padded behind Bramblethorn and beside Icepaw. The little apprentice was somehow interesting to him, and so he watched her. Creepy. He noticed her face as she was thinking, when she was annoyed, when she was happy and sad. Before she could notice,Squirreltooth childishly turned away. "Bramblethorn, where are we going exactly?" he wondered and the trio ventured deeper into the drying pine trees.
